Marshmallows and Coffee Background Tutorial

Ok, so a lot of you probably have already seen this done or know how to do it yourself but just in case I took some photos as I went through the process of applying this background.  I have never done a tutorial before so it may be a little rough...

First I stamped Marshmallows and Coffee, from Whimsy Stamps, with Memento Tuxedo Black and used a liquid masking fluid to mask her.  I purchased the one above at Michaels.  It is applied with a paint brush.

Next I embossed different sized snowflakes around her.  I just used an iridescent powder so they wouldn't be too bold.  This basically masks the white paper underneath anyway so you don't really need to use a white embossing powder- but you can.

Your masking fluid should be dry by now but if it's not you will want to wait until it is for the next step.  I have used Distress Ink by Tim Holtz in Antique Linen and a blending tool to apply.

I thought it need a little more definition and so went back over the outer edges with Walnut Stain, another Distress Ink.  Then you simply gently rub the masking off of your stamped image.  You can do this with your finger or a soft cloth if you prefer. I'm lazy and just used my finger.  Then you are ready to color!

I colored her with my Graph'it markers.  My color combos are listed on the original post but I will list them again here.

Graph'it color combos used:
skin: 4125, 4115, 4170, 3120/ 4145 4135
hair: 1210, 1230, 1270, 3125
red: 5110, 5120, 5140, 5170
white: 3110, 7101, blender
brown: 3120, 3125, 3140, 3180

I hope you enjoyed my first ever tutorial!!  If you have any questions please leave them in the comments and I will get back to you.  I love hearing from you all!  Have a crafty day! XO
